Köthen is the headquarter of the New Fruitbearing Society It continues the tradition of the first German language society founded in 1617 by Prince Louis of Anhalt-Köthen and invites you to the German Language World Experience in the castle and to numerous events to cultivate the German language.
In the German Language World Experience at Köthen castle, visitors can discover the German language starting with the history of the first German language society, the Fruibearing Society of the 17th century, and learn about various aspects of the German language. Multimedia animations, projections and audio playback invite adults and children to participate in the exhibition.
Um den Unruhen der Revolution zu entkommen, reiste Joseph Freiherr von Eichendorff 1849 von Dresden für ein paar Tage nach Köthen. Dort erwarb seine Tochter 1854 das Haus von Major Nicolaus Joseph von Holly-Ponienczecz. Eichendorff fuhr im April 1855 erneut nach Köthen und hielt sich bis Oktober in seinem Haus auf.
