The roots of today's High German language can be found in the so-called Meißner Kanzleisprache, which Luther had already used when he translated the holy scriptures into German. The poet Gotthold Ephraim Lessing and Christian Fürchtegott Gellert visited the School of Lords in Meißen. Today, the German language is cultivated and preserved through a variety of events, such as the annual literature festival.
