As the center of creation of the High German written language through Luther's translation of the new and the Old Testament into German, Lutherstadt Wittenberg is rich in historical contemporary witnesses.

Strung together like pearls, you will find the Lutherhaus, which today is the largest museum for reformation history in the world, the residence of Philipp Melanchthon, commonly referred to as "teacher of Germany", the university Leucorea with the Institut für deutsche Sprache und Kultur e.V. (Institute for German language and culture), the town church with its famous reformation altar, the properties of court painter Lucas Cranach with its numerous ateliers and the historical print workshop, and the Schlosskirche (Castle Church) with its famous Thesentür (door of theses) as well as the graves of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon.
